The Staircase

This is a private commission for a historical home in South-Western Ontario. The brief for this quilt was to produce a piece of work to hang in the hallway of this large country home. The spiral staircase in the hallway was my inspiration. I worked through a series of drawings to scale and produced a full-scale colour painting to sort out problems of colour, scale, proportion, balance of design etc. Fabrics were dyed and pieced before working into the whole cloth with acrylic paints and Markal Paintstiks. The quilt was heavily machine embroidered and finished with a bound edge.
