| Hand dyed natural scoured cotton, hand
painted, Armo fleece, machine quilted, machine appliqué. Waterddy
Lane is a visual documentation, which challenges the concept of using
traditional English folk dance as a source of inspiration. It explores
the rhythmic vitality of a selected Morris dance, the colours, dance
figures and patterns of movement and my own very personal response
as a dancer. I have tried to encapsulate these elements, all of which
belong to an important part of our culture, as a lasting record, into
this contemporary art quilt. As an artist I aim to grow in both approach
and application and therefore I always look for and respond to exciting
challenges and opportunities. The invitation to work on a large scale
hanging was a welcome new direction for me. |
