Hi everyone

It's been one of those days today when nothing seems to have gone right and nothing has been achieved either.......and that's the worst of it as there is actually so much that needs doing. The mistake I know I have made is that I did not start with THE LIST............you know the one.........the one with lots of things written down that you know you can tick off. Mine was full of big tasks, and with all the interruptions today none of them were completed. What I should have done was write down a few minor tasks which I could have done quickly and ticked off, and then I would have been more on track. Anyway tomorrow is another day.

I nearly had some more snow pictures for you today, but it turned out to be just a sprinkling. So I then toyed with the idea of taking a load of pictures to show you all the 'mud' everywhere around!!!!! Oops sorry, mustn't get miserable again so soon.

So what exciting news can I share with you and there is plenty I promise you. Read on to find out.

VISITORS TO MOOR HALL

Well this was a first......a visit from Viv and Kev from Art Van Go.......who stopped off for a couple of nights on their way to a Quilt Show in Llangollen. It was really great having them here and I look forward to being at their place at the end of the month.

There are loads of wonderful courses happening at Art Van Go, so do check out their website.

I will be ordering in some books to sell from my studio so now is the time to let me know if you will be wanting one from me. Alternatively they will be available from Art Van Go, other book shops and of course from Search Press.

COURSES

In the last newsletter I gave you details of all the courses coming up this year. Well several have already filled, so  if you were planning on coming and have not yet booked, PLEASE DO NOT DELAY. I am been asking myself recently 'why is it that people want to come here'. Well one thing I am certain of is that you cannot fail to appreciate the wonderful situation of Moor Hall. This part of Shropshire is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and I hope my studio and the welcome, that students get when they come here, make them want to return.  I couldn't run the business without Martin who is always on hand to sort out any problems that might unexpectedly occur, like the a students flat tyre that happened last week. So please come and see for yourself, as I am sure you will love it here.

So lets begin by seeing a little more of what Sarah Burgess will be offering at the beginning of April.

SARAH BURGESS

Personal Landscapes with Print and Stitch

5th and 6th April (Fri/Sat)

£100

This is Sarah in her studio at home. Sarah has recently completed her MA in Textiles at Manchester School of Art, Metropolitan University. She has taught art, design and textiles in colleges for many years and I know that she always delivers a well prepared and thought provoking course.

Being surrounded by countryside where she lives in Derbyshire has an effect on her work, not always obvious to a viewer, but cycles of life, growth and plant structure are often in her mind.

The course that she is offering at Moor Hall will also focus on the landscape and will have students engaged in making accidental and intentional printed marks onto experimental surfaces. Text, stitch and marks are layered, fabrics inserted, contrasts explored and shapes exaggerated to create personal landscapes of time and space.

I know that this will be a brilliant course and one not to be missed. I have got my name down.

Sarah will also be giving a lecture on the Thursday evening at Craven Arms Community Centre, Newingtom Way, SY7 9PS at 7.00 for 7.30pm.

JAN BEANEY ~ Landscapes in Lace

26th and 27th April (Fri/Sat)

£100

The aim for this 2 day course is to create a unique cloth exploiting aspects of landscape. After considering various design ideas, it is hoped that students will develop the imagery with machine and hand embroidery plus beading if appropriate. This course can be adapted for students who only wish to hand stitch.

Exploring Paper Surfaces

March 8th ~ 10th  2013 (Fri/Sat/Sun)

£170 for 3 very full days

This paper based course will explore a variety of methods to create mark and texture with colour on paper in experimental ways. These papers will be used as a basis for developmental 'drawing' ideas, including collage and visual interpretations.

Not Towing the Line

May 9th ~ 11th  2013 (Thurs/Fri/Sat)

£170 for 3 full days

This course will focus on the use of linear hand stitches such as running, couching and straight stitches used in innovative ways, consideration of different scales and with possibly unpredictable results!

It is not too late to book on these courses and we would love to welcome some new faces to Moor Hall as well as seeing returning students. We promise that you will have 3 days full of activity and masses of ideas to take away with you.
