MORE NEWS ON GRANTS and FUNDING

Thank you so much for all the lovely emails received over the past few weeks. I hope that you will find the images that I am going to show you in this newsletter uplifting and reassuring that all money raised gets out to the on-going projects in Kisaabwa. But first some news on grants.

In the last newsletter I was able to tell you that we had been successful with a grant from Wales Africa Community Links. This grant is to strengthen community links between our Welsh community of Presteigne and Kisaabwa through exchange and training. To this end we have been busy during the past few weeks working on a visa application to get our Ugandan partner and Project Manager Fred Ssetyaba to the UK at the end of the year.
The news this month on grants is however mixed.

We are desperately wishing to finish off the borehole before moving on to other projects. We regret to say that we were unsuccessful with a grant application for the shortfall of £5,000 that we are needing for the purchase of the solar powered pump, panels and installation costs. This is very disappointing for us as we really want to see this project reach a conclusion when we next visit there in December. Seeing the borehole in operation is the very thing which will be benefit the whole community.
THEREFORE THIS NEWSLETTER COMES WITH THIS PLEA:
  • Can you help us in anyway to raise these needed funds in whatever way you can.........maybe a coffee morning, a dinner party, a sponsored walk, or other event, etc. I am sure you will have your own ideas.
  • Is your church looking for a reliable charity to support this Christmas. If so please think about recommending'Hands up for Uganda'.
  • Do you play in a band or sing in a choir which likes to support charities. If so, could you again think of  'Hands up for Uganda'.
  • Are you cutting back on Christmas cards or presents this year.......maybe this might be a way to support with just a few pounds?
  • BUT PLEASE....... if you already support a regular charity, please don't stop reading my newsletters and maybe just recommend 'Hands up for Uganda' to others.
  • Thank you.
KINDERGARTEN

I did say that the news was mixed and the good news is that we have been awarded £4,000 towards the building of the Kindergarten. This does mean that when we are ready we can get cracking with that exciting project, so more on that in the New Year when we are ready. Our grateful thanks to Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust.
BACK ON THE FARM

I have been telling you about the progress on the farm and at last I have received the images to back up this news.

The Farmhouse:

The farmhouse now has windows, doors and a roof. The farm truck is still working well and is completely funding itself by hiring it for local use. This covers petrol and maintenance costs.
The Pigs:

.....and their new home

.....and feeding toughs.
The Goats:

....and their new home
.........they graze elsewhere during the day

The Rabbits:

.....these are a new addition to the farm.

.....various animals stalls and enclosures.

........Sweet potatoes                                     ...........fencing around farm boundary

.......Fred, contemplating progress!!!!!
I am sure that you will agree that progress on the farm is just amazing. We also know that the trust is growing within the community and more and more people are wanting to be involved in the work. New youngsters turn up wanting to work on the farm, so Fred does the best he can in providing some work. Others give it freely in support of the KISAABWA PROJECT.
STAR-CHILD SHOE CHALLENGE

Firstly my apologies to those of you that subscribe to both my textile and Ugandan newsletters, as you will be hearing this news in both newsletters.

THE STARCHILD SHOE CHALLENGE has taken on a new momentum, with a huge number of contributors now wishing to take part.

Can I now PLEASE urge all of you that have purchased some bark cloth for this challenge to get busy stitching. The project aims to raise funds and awareness for the charity 'Hands up for Uganda' .

These are the first two pairs of shoes and will be on display at the remaining two Knitting and Stitching Shows. These will not be wearable shows but ART SHOES, so don't hold back from being inventive. You do not have to make the shoes, just decorate the bark cloth or incorporate the bark cloth in with your working methods and why not include any 'over the top' wacky adornments.

Please click this link for further instructions.
The following 'processes' will give you some insight into how Janet and her workers at Star-Child Shoes make these shoes. This should help you in creating your piece of fabric.
FINALLY
If you have purchased a piece of bark cloth for this challenge can you please make sure that I do have you down on my list and that I have your email address so that I can keep you informed of how the project is progressing. THANK YOU
