NEWS FROM MOOR HALL

3 Day Summer Painting Workshop at Moor Hall Studio with Paul Priestley

This course is already taking bookings so don't waste another day, book now!

Paul Priestlet at Moor Hall

This 3 day course with Paul will be a great opportunity for students wishing to be challenged and to learn from an inspiring teacher. Spend three days painting and drawing in the wonderful surroundings of Moor Hall and the Shropshire Hills. With stunning landscapes, farm buildings, farm animals and the tranquility of wide open spaces and wooded glades you cannot fail to be inspired. The course will cover sketching in the open air, line, tone, perspective, creating depth and interest in drawing as well as covering all aspects of landscape painting.

Each day will provide a different challenge, whether it is painting an expansive view of the landscape, or the more intimate scene of a babbling brook in an area of woodland. The course is designed for all abilities as much of the teaching will be on an individual basis. The focus will be on acrylic and oil painting mediums, but with opportunities for working in watercolour.

Wednesday - Friday 4th, 5th, 6th August 2010
£150 for the full 3-day course

ART VAN GO
Double Image - 25th and 26 June 2010

This for me is always an exciting course which produces such brilliant results as shown in the work below from Susie Stone. I shall be returning to Art Van Go on November 5th and 6th 2010 when students will discover that they can draw and again this is a course that will produce some fantastic results from the students.

ELEMENTAL DRAWING with PIP WOOLF

The class was full and the day was rich with activity
Here is a comment from one of the students:

" Pip Woolf's course tackled a question we all have to find an answer to - How do I begin? She took us back to mark making, a simple straight line, repeated again and again as we focussed on our breathing and the sounds around us in the studio. The terror of the blank page in the pristine sketchbook was broken! From the studio we moved outside into the beautiful surroundings of Moor Hall and we continued within the discipline of straight lines but this time absorbing the sensations and sounds of the natural surroundings, the wind in the trees, the sounds of the stream and the sensation of the earth beneath us as we drew whilst laying on the grass, . Our marks were changing, influenced by our engagement with our surroundings. We also used 'elemental' pigments direct from rocks, smoke from candle flames, painted with flower petals rubbed onto the paper and even wode! We departed with our sketchbooks full, artfully scorched in places, filled with original mark-making and most of all memories of a unique experience."

15th - 18th July 2010
Gates open: 9.00
Show opens:10.00am - 5.30pm

It is with great regret that I will be unable to attend Art in Action this year as originally planned. This is very disappointing for me, particularly as I know some of you were planning to visit me and I also know that all 4 of my courses were fully booked. Those who have booked however will not be disappointed as a fantastic tutor has offered to take my classes, non other than Diana Springall. So you will without question be in for a really special treat.

It is an event well-worth visiting with 150/200 artists to observe first hand, working on their own particularly creative process. Artforms include, painting, textiles, ceramics, glass, woodwork, sculpture, jewellery and so much more.

SIAN MARTIN

Another disappointment was not being able to tutor alongside Ruth Issett at Sian Martins's Distant Stitch Summer School at Urchfont last week. Nonetheless the students all had a great time in the skilled hands of Ruth and with their mentor Sian.

Sian Martin

Sian offers wonderful on-line opportunities for students wishing to pursue City and Guilds Course in Embroidery as well as exciting short textile courses. If you would like to see more of what Sian Martin is up to, click on either of the following links:
