September 2008
I have now completed my first year in offering creative courses from
my home. For me it has been an excellent year and one that I have not
regretted, mainly because of the fantastic support from all the students
that have attended these courses. To you all a huge thank you, especially
as so many of you keep returning for more. Please do not stop coming
and to the rest of you, you really do need to be quick off the mark,
as this Autumn, most of the course were created and filled immediately
by those wanting to return. So all you need to do is tell me what you
want to do, see who else is interested and then get in touch with your
diaries at the ready.
If you look at the new programme it looks as though I am not doing
as much this session, but this is not so. On the 20th I am off to Vancouver
with ‘SIX’ for two weeks to attend the preview of our touring
exhibition ‘Six Stories’. This will be the last leg of this
tour and we are very excited at the opportunity of being able to travel
over there as well. This is thanks to the Arts Council, for awarding
us a grant to support this touring exhibition. Marie and I will also
be offering a couple of workshops and presentations while over there.
Details are on the website www.sixart.co.uk I shall also be returning
to Inverness in Scotland for workshops and a lecture. I spent a fantastic
time in Scotland in August teaching at the Scottish Embroiderers Guild
Summer School. In November I shall be teaching at Art Van Go and you
can also see me at some of the Knitting and Stitching Shows this year.
So as you can see my diary is fairly full.
For me the most exciting personal development has been the invitation
to tutor on the BA (Hons) Embroidered Textile for Julia and Alex Caprara
at the OPUS School of Textile Arts. I now have my first students and
feel ready and excited at guiding them through this fantastic course.
In addition to this I am so thrilled to have my friend Ruth Issett,
living near to me and we are planning a series of some challenging three
day courses to take place next Spring/summer 2009. You need to register
your interest if you wish to receive details of these courses. I also
continue to attend whenever possible my art classes with my mentor and
friend Cecily Sash at her studio in Presteigne.
Many of you know that I am desperate to get a new studio built so that
I can accommodate more students and courses. Well some progress has
been made although new plans have to be submitted to the council. However
it is possible that building might commence sometime before Christmas……so
fingers crossed.
Well that’s it for now……other than to say we now
have three new kittens.
Best Wishes
Bobby
