January 2009
I hope you all had a great Christmas and that 2009 is a good year for
everyone. Although the news seems doom and gloom, my advice to you would
be to do something creative to keep you happy and fulfilled. With
this in mind I hope I have a course or two on offer that might interest
you!!
My courses have continued to flourish and I am hopeful that 2009 will
continue in a similar way. Several courses have already been filled
by students returning, so remember if a course that you are interested
in is full or not on the right day, all you need to do is tell me what
kind of course you want, see who else is interested and then get in
touch with me, with your diaries at the ready. I do still get out and
about with my teaching and 2009 also brings with it new courses with
Ruth Issett and myself, teaching side by side in the same space. Details
of these courses are on this website.
The building development for my new studio space started before Christmas
as I had hoped and I am so excited to see things at last happening.
Although the initial plans have been tailored down somewhat I am still
going to be able to have a much bigger and better self contained teaching
space which should hopefully be completed in the Spring. I shall be
having an opening day or weekend to which you will all be invited, so
watch out for details. So as you can imagine, a great deal of my energies
over the next few months, will be going into overseeing the building
of my studio.
Many of my current students will be exhibiting their work at a number
of venues over the next few months. This is exciting for them as it
means that their work will be out there for the public to view, but
it can also be quite daunting. However I know that anyone visiting any
of these exhibitions will be amazed at the quality of work that has
been produced. Check out the venues and times and see if you can pay
one of the shows a visit.
In 2008, I began tutoring on the BA (Hons) Embroidered Textiles Course
for the OPUS School of Textile Arts. This has been a wonderful experience
and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my students over the pass
few months and I wish them every success as they continue their studies.
However it has also been a very sad time because of the tragic loss
of Julia Caprara. It is hard to put in to words what she meant to so
many people and she will be greatly missed, least of all by Alex and
her family. However it is also clear that Opus is thriving and will
continue to grow and I look forward to being part of such a fantastic
team of staff and tutors.
Well that’s it for now……other than to say that the
kittens are thriving and are such a lovely addition to the existing
animals of dogs, hens and sheep.
All the best,
Bobby
