WELCOME TO SPRING

Well what a lovely change this weather has been, although the newly planted vegetables and plants will soon be craving for water. I had hoped that I would have pictures to share with you of our new arrivals, but regretably there are no immediate signs of our lambs being born just yet. Meanwhile here is Jessie one of the mums to be I might have to send out another newsletter as soon as the babies appear!!!   Jessie

Since my last newsletter I have had yet another great time with Viv and Kev from ART VAN GO, this time teaching a two-day course down in Knebworth in their inspiring studio and gallery space. The new gardens were being landscaped while I was there and this will make a great addition to an already brilliant venue. Well worth a visit for fantastic art supplies, workshops and regular exhibitions. I offered what I think turned out to be a challenging two days course looking at the work of Ben Nicholson for inspiration and ideas. The work produced exceeded my expectations and it was great fun working with such a hard working group of students. I shall be back there in June offering a course called 'Double Image' This course is a very exciting one as it has very unexpected, but intriging results. It will initially have students trying out ideas in paper, before moving on to constructing designs with bonded appliqué, then cutting and folding to produce new imagery and effects. This spontaneous method of designing is great fun to do and the results are always amazing. So do check out their website for further details of this course.

COURSES AT MOOR HALL STUDIO

DRAWING AND COLOUR - Cecily Sash

May 11th
Tuesday

11.00 - 4.00

£45 - day course
  Cecily Sash

The renowned South African artist Cecily Sash returns to Moor Hall Studio to offer another stimulating day of drawing. Cecily's approach is very much based on influences as taught in the Bauhaus, with a strong emphasis on design elements and composition.
This workshop will begin by doing some careful studies of the wonderfully crafted African animal artefacts from Cecily's collection. The drawings will be developed into a resolved composition which will then be taken through into colour. At the age of 85, Cecily still brings so much enthusiasm and of course experience into her teaching and I feel that this is a real priviledge having her to teach at Moor Hall Studio. I recommend EARLY BOOKING as her courses always over subscribe.

PAINTING WORKSHOPS - Paul Priestley

Paul has now finished teaching all his painting courses, but I am delighted that he is planning to tempt you with a new batch of courses when he returns in the Autumn.........

......but meanwhile I am delighted to be welcoming Paul back to teach a three-day Summer School at Moor Hall Studio in August. This will be a great opportunity for students wishing to be challenged and to learn from an inspiring teacher.

Spend three days painting and drawing in the wonderful surroundings of Moor Hall and the Shropshire Hills. With stunning landscapes, farm buildings, farm animals and the tranquillity of wide open spaces and wooded glades you cannot fail to be inspired. The course will cover sketching in the open air, line, tone, perspective, creating depth and interest in drawing as well as covering all aspects of landscape painting. Each day will provide a different challenge, whether it is painting an expansive view of the landscape, or the more intimate scene of a babbling brook in an area of woodland. The course is designed for all abilities as much of the teaching will be on an individual basis. The focus will be on acrylic and oil painting mediums, but with opportunities for working in watercolour.   The brook at Moor Hall

PEARL OF AFRICA

Well I have booked my flight to Uganda for November of this year. Toby has been out there for nearly a month now and his last phone call to us was from under a mango tree, surrounded by very many of his new young Ugandan friends. It sounded as though he had his hands well and truelly full.
This unquestionably is proving to be such an worthwhile and humbling experience for him and I look forward to experiencing this first hand myself in the Autumn. I mentioned that we hope to form some creative links and these have begun by us having for sale some African drums, shakers and other instruments.

ADULT LEARNERS WEEK

Adult Learners' Week is the UK's largest and longest running learning campaign. It takes place each May and its aim is to encourage thousands of adults, whatever their age and background, to give learning a go.

Adult Learners' Week will take place from 15-21 May 2010.

I am offering two such sessions in my local community. One will take place at Newcastle Children's Centre and I am particularly delighted to be invited back to this venue as I was very much involved in its creation over 10 years ago now. Parents will be working with their children at this session by being actively involved in the creative activities on offer.

The second event will be taking place at my studio and will be an opportunity for local members to learn some new art and craft skills in response to their local environment. This workshop is suitable for all, so please book a place.

Wednesday 19th May 2010, 10.30 to 12.30

SESSIONS ARE FREE
