September 2011

Well I do hope that you are all OK and getting yourselves prepared for the Autumn season. Where did the summer go..........I must have blinked!!! Although I must say that it is gorgeous here today and I thought you might like to see a couple of photographs of my garden before we loose all of this lovely colour. Even though it is past its best it has been particularly lovely this year all thanks to a very hard working gardener.........which is not me!!!!

There is so much catching up to do with you as well, courses that have been and gone, new ones coming up and so much more. SO PLEASE READ ON.

Some of you may know that I spent a week at Sidmouth Folk Festival performing with Martha Rhodens Tuppenny Dish and the Shropshire Bedlams, two border Morris dance teams. During the latter part of August we had a further week of music and dance, this time hosting a fabulous dance team from Klagenfurt, Southern Austria. We had an amazing time with them and they went down a storm at Shrewsbury Folk Festival and again when they performed at Blist Hill, Ironbridge. There was plenty of music and dancing, eating and drinking for 8 days, leaving us all exhausted, but having experienced so much fun and friendship along the way.

JEAN LITTLEJOHN

No sooner had they gone, when Jean Littlejohn arrived to deliver a lecture for the Marches Branch of the Embroiderers Guild and a two-day course at Moor Hall Studio. This was not her first visit to Shropshire but it was her first to my studio and I am hoping that she will be making a return visit next year. It goes without saying that both of these events were hugely successful, with some fabulous work being produced by the students as you can see below. Jean is so generous with her information and materials and I felt that all the students left feeling exceedlingly happy with their resulting samples, of which there were plenty.

PAUL PRIESTLEY
In mid August Paul delivered another excellent summer school with some remarkable results. Students managed to dodge the rain and get some time outside drawing and painting. Paul is excellent with all the demonstrating and advice that he gives to his students, providing them with confidence to move forward with their painting skills.

DOROTHY TUCKER

Dot was also with here in July and it was such a successful course that I have booked her to return on the 29th and 30th June 2012. Of course many of the students that enrolled the first time round are wanting to return so do be quick in expressing your interest.

AND THATS NOT ALL:

I look forward to a return visit from Mary Sleigh on the 4th and 5th of May and return visits from both Jean Littlejohn and Jan Beaney in 2012.....dates to soon be confirmed.

Be patient while it downloads and although in French is worth seeing to the end as it clearly shows her working methods. Be warned it begins with showing some bugs, but fear not it is the correct video!!!!

DRAWING GROUPS ~ Moor Art 1 and 2

MOOR ART 1 ~ Meet on alternative Wednesdays

Sept 21st, October 5th and 19th, November 2nd and 16th

£150 for 5 sessions or £50 an individual session.

MOOR ART 2 ~ Meet on weekends

October 15th and 16th, November 12th and 13th

£120 for the 4 sessions or £50 an individual day

My two drawing groups held a very successful exhibition in July which attracted a great deal of attention. I am thrilled in the progress that students have made in their own personal development. They have demonstrated that with continuous practise that drawing can be taught and confidence gained in the process.

Both of these groups have places available for the new term and if you feel that you may be interested in joining either of these groups please get in touch. To benefit from a reduced fee the students pay for a term in advance, but if you feel you might like to attend just for one session initially this is also possible.

Students follow set projects, which may include detailed drawing, design development into colour through using a variety of media. I am looking forward to seeing the work that I set then on gardens and flowers for their holiday homework when they return this Autumn...........no pressure then girls!!!! Here are some of my girls working with the renowned artist Cecily Sash which I set up as a special class for them and in preparation for the drawing of flowers.

I LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING SOME NEW MEMBERS TO THESE GROUPS.

RUTH ISSETT ~ Crazy for Colour

Thursdays ~13th October, 3rd November, 1st December

£105 for 3 sessions

This on-going group tutored by Ruth, currently has one vacant place. There are 3 sessions this term, should anyone feel that they would like to give this course a try, before committing to it permanently. It will not be suitable for the complete beginner, but for someone with some experience. Further details are on my website or please email for further information.

Ruth will also be running a couple of two day courses this Autumn, as well as a further series in the New Year. Check out details on my website.

FINALLY

This I feel shall prove to be a challenging few months ahead for me, with several projects in hand.

KNITTING AND STITCHING SHOWS

I have work to finish for the Knitting and Stitching Shows, where I shall be exhibiting with The Textile Study Group. Accompanying this exhibition although not solely relating to it, will be a very useful publication showing the current work of each member of the Textile Study Group. This publication will be of immense use to students studying textiles as well as to the wider public with a general interest in contemporary textiles. So please visit our stand.

STITCHED TEXTILES ~ Flowers

The next few months needs some dedicated time laid aside to writing and completing all the samples for my first book. It is a great title that I have been offered by Serach Press, but now requires me to get my head down and get working!!!!!

UGANDA ~ PEARL OF AFRICA

Amidst all this the Pearl of Africa Children Choir will be arriving in the UK the week after next for the start of their 10 week tour. In fact this year there are two choirs coming, one to the South of England and the second to the North. I am busy planning a two week programme in Shropshire for the end of October/beginning November.

Details of the full programmes can be found on their website. However, please note that the calendar still needs to be added to as events are finalised.
