Well I am gradually getting near the end of this terms courses, with just a couple more to go.
Sadly because of personal reasons Alice Fox had to withdraw from teaching her 4 day course at Moor Hall last week. I was reluctant to cancel it as I had one student coming from Germany and another from Australia, as well as many having booked into B and B locally.
I tried to get a cover tutor, but in the end I decided to run the course myself. Luckily it was with a group of fabulous students who had an appetite and willingness to take everything on board and we all helped and supported one another through the course.
It was a steep learning curve, more so for me, but what a great deal of fun we all had. If the results are anything to go by I think we managed just fine......so thank you to you all and to Alice for supplying me with her notes and plenty of encouragement.
Our journey started with rusting papers. These were some of the rusty tools and artefacts we used.
We then moved on to making simple books which were used outside to record all kinds of exciting findings.
Rubbings were explored and printing techniques, drawing all the inspiration from the immediate surroundings.
We then moved on to printing on to fabrics, with wool and silk being the most successful, although cotton also had some interesting results.
Threads used to wrap the bundles were also most successful and used for stitching into the pieces of fabric.
Students were then challenged to create a long piece of work based on what they had so far learnt.
These were fun to do and challenged the students in new ways.
For the final challenge I spoke about format, presentation and how a series of works can develop. This allowed the students to find their own creative path.
