MESSAGE FROM FRED

Hello bobby and martin;
I understand how serious matters might be, but in your consideration you must bear with me; based on how much we now hold as a portion of being self-sustaining here, and the endeavours to uphold it, it takes a little more time for me on the ground than on the computer!

But as a matter of fact, and in consideration to double demands, I find these some times conflicting; ......ground work and office!

You should also remember that these are our initial stages of being self sustaining so we are trying to experiment how much time can we spend without distorting you in any way .......while we are standing on our one leg just like our Uganda crane!

WELL THAT WAS TELLING US!!!!

That message came in a response to a phone call to Fred to ask why he not been in touch for some time with some information that we were needing for a grant application.

But the important point from his message is that the community of Kisaabwa is beginning to take the initiative and make positive moves without us, paving the way towards a sustainable future.

We felt encouraged by his message and he did in fact provide us with the information that we now need to help us move forward with grant application.

Please CLICK HERE to be taken to my website to read passed newsletters about the background to the business training courses that this refers too.

This is what Fred went on to write:
MODESTY PROPOSAL

Owing to the recently concluded business course that came with matured results that at first where unpredictable being the first of its kind in Kisaabwa, Mpalampa and Kawoko "Greater KISAABWA", I together with the community leaders and stakeholders, the beneficiaries of the first course on whose achievements they stand, the promising young creation, advantaged and disadvantaged homesteads, do hereby through Mrs Bobby Britnell and Martin, the UK committee; do pass on our double vote of thanks twinned with the voice of need once again to all our fundraisers in UK and beyond.

The records prove beyond all measures and verifications that the estimated 30 people came to a worrying number of 130 people, who filled in the garage and the teaching space, and teachers used the verandah. The books provided were not enough but for the love of the people each bought a book in our village shops to keep it running therefore demand exceeded supply.

Its therefore because of this intent and purpose, the very definition of the our charity objectives and motto that we do seek to keep the fire burning and carrying on with different courses as such.
For the time I have not been constantly writing, allow me to let you know that I have been on a great research on "what can go wrong"  as I called it.

And this is what I and man from up, Henry Salongo and the different representatives come up with:

1. Disillusionment of education in Uganda
A lot of people have been disillusioned by the nature of education there is in Uganda that trains people only how to think, the results of which is to be blamed for the bulging number of job seekers rather than job creators which in turn to our country has shaped up a great thinking generation but lazy generation on the ground, heavy unemployment cases, theft and gambling, and so many injustices, like child abuse, early pregnancies as a result of job failure etc.
2. Need for practical studies and skills
Given practical studies and skills will therefore uplift, restore the sinking hopes and rising fears among the people; the only way out is to use the voice of a charity they trust to help them out.
3.Benefits of education
The benefits of this education also targets at averting social woes (cries) in different homesteads and individuals where the charity cannot satisfy financial and economic needs. Therefore teaching one family member will make him or her family teacher and save us the much we could do for that family; the fact that human wants are insatiable.
4. Second chance education
Particularly in life skills helping the under privileged, the down trodden, considered as inferiors of the society the likes of former "Jonas" those who could not afford the fees but can be helpful to the community. The need to keep alive what we pioneered the fact that you take six months, we need to be doing something in your absentia.

Jonas, as well as a key worker on the farm is now growing his own cabbages

5. The need to prevent  rural-urban migration.
In search for greener pastures leaving huge chunks of land and opportunities at home, going to Sudan and neighboring countries. Need to appreciate the values of nature and materials around them. So many unmentioned privileges aiming at development.
6. The pay yourself theory
The theory we finally came up with, given practical skills and start ups we strongly think we shall abandon the wait for a month bid and pay our selves through what we do. So many charities have experienced this problem, when they wind up having lamed its parties in a bid to wait for the monthly salary.....and therefore the progress ends at the winding of the charity! We therefore want to prevent future strife;

This picture illustrates the dedication of community members, meeting to discuss the way forward for them and coming up with the 'Modesty Proposal'.

In a conclusive remark therefore this even when the charity winds up will leave a fundamental change and fundamental principles of  social works and development, individual emancipation, girl child education ,women emancipation.

Lets therefore aim at uplifting both our minds and hands.

HELP US GET THE CRESTED CRANE ONTO TWO LEGS

When we started this charity our over-ridding aim was to help this community towards a sustainable future. Although we still have a little way to go, we are gradually beginning to hand over responsibility and we are very encouraged by the initiatives being shown.

We do need to remain focussed and work to achieve our ultimate aim. We remain grateful to all the support we get and would encourage anyone looking for a charity to support to set up a direct debit with ours for maybe a period of one or two years. Knowing we get in funds monthly gives us peace of mind to keep things ticking over and we can then raise funds for the bigger projects through grants.

All money raised gets to the projects because as a small charity we are able to do this as we are able to cover all the running costs ourselves.

Email ME to find out how to set up a direct debit

LAPTOP APPEAL

We are so lucky to now have a young Ugandan graduate on board, trained in IT and who is able to keep the accounts over in Kisaabwa. I can't tell you what a relief this is to us, especially as she speaks good English as well.

PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS A WORKABLE LAPTOP WHICH IS REASONABLY UP TO DATE WE WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL.

Here is Lilian in the charity farm office.
