'Spontaneous Stitch'

Friday and Saturday, March 4th and 5th ~ 2011

£100 ~ weekend

An exciting and freer approach to work, for those with a sense of adventure and an eye for something different, involving both machine and hand stitch.  Working with fabrics, papers and mixed media, by stitching, cutting, shifting and trapping, we will create lively pieces with interesting surface enclosures, pockets and windows.

'Crumpled Paper with Marysia'

Tuesday 29th March 2011 ~ £50 the day

I am thrilled to be able to invite Marysia from France to teach at Moor Hall Studio. Her own work is highly imaginative and she is able to draw her students into this fantasy world through her own gentle way of teaching. Marysia has always painted. She likes to compare the act of painting to a dance.........a "dance" that is spontaneous, a dance of improvisation and very rich in colour. She likes paper: she tears it, crumples it, folds it, colours it, scrapes it and assembles it. The works reveal images and characters which detain both a strange wisdom and lots of joy.

She is today a painter and an illustrator of books for children and her work as a multidisciplinary artist, is present in many collective and personal exhibitions in France and abroad.

Featuring: PAUL PRIESTLEY

Paul has taught several courses at Moor Hall Studio and I am delighted that he is returning to teach here again. He was born in Bradford, initially trained as an art teacher and ran a very successful Art Department for many years in Southend before moving to Herefordshire. He has been teaching art courses now for over 8 years at venues in Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Worcestershire and for institutions including HSBC, Land Rover, Thames Water, Appletizer, the Farncombe Estate as well as abroad.

Paul is a firm believer in the fact that anyone can draw and paint, no matter what that art teacher said many years ago. Building confidence is one of the main aims of his courses, as well as having fun and learning a lot.

PP2

'Painting inspires me, from the moment an idea is born through the process of development, until the moment I sense the journey has come to an end. I enjoy the feel of the paint, even the spring of a hog's hair brush as it spreads its load on canvas, is a wonderful feeling. Inspiration can come from the colour of an object - I do love colour - a situation, a turn of a head, the interaction between two people or the wonderful landscape here in Herefordshire. Drawing is an integral part of what I do, I love the boldness of graphite contrasted with the subtlety of watercolour pencils. I love experimenting and am currently working on a series of paintings which explore the qualities of  watercolour and acrylic through the vehicle of landscape.'
