SNOW ~ SNOW ~ SNOW

These images were taken the other day.....the snow drifts were even greater this morning but I did not venture out to take pictures. We are without water as the tank has frozen and in fact the pump has also given up. Unfortunately no-one can get to us just yet, to look at it, so Martin goes down to the stream to get buckets of water for flushing the toilet and a trip down to our neighbours for drinking, cooking and washing water.
It can't go on much longer surely. Normally I would love to go tobogganing but not in this cold weather.  Still the dogs love it!!!!

So how many of you like WHITE STUFF?
Now I am not talking about the snow this time but about the shop. We have one in Ludlow at 6 Castle Square. They sell all kinds of things from clothes through to household items and at the moment are featuring some of the lampshades made by Jennifer Collier. Her lampshades are stunning and most innovative. She will be with me soon showing students how they are made and giving you all the advice needed about health and safety. These lamps with the shades are fully functioning and create a wonderful addition to your home.

This is the shop in Ludlow, where you can view Jennifers lampshades, and pick up a flier about the course at Moor Hall

JENNIFER COLLIER

So what will you be doing on this course. D escribed by Jennifer as 'luxury' lampshades and that is certainly what they are, you will create  your own beautiful recycled paper lampshade using lovely vintage papers and by upcycling existing frames. You will be shown all steps of the process, from how to create a pattern to fit your frame, to how to stitch the papers together to form the shade.

THESE ARE NOT JUST ART LAMPSHADES BUT ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL ONES AND I CAN THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COURSE

You  will also be taught embellishment techniques, such as embossing, stamping, and various hand and machine stitches to decorate your light shade. Jennifer will provide all materials but asks students to bring along any special maps, papers, or books you may wish to incorporate and a lampshade frame to up-cycle (panel lampshades as pictured, rather than barrel) or Jennifer will have them available to buy on the day for £4-£9.

A fabulous course which is very popular with Jennifer's students.

'Paper Lampshades'               16/17 April                 £130 for 2 days

TEXTILE STUDY GROUP

We have just ha a wonderful course with Debbie Lyddon, which luckily took place before this bad weather set in.

The workshop 'Seeing Sound' focused on extending our sensory perception by making connections between what you hear and what you see in the world. Through collecting and creating our own sounds we investigated their characteristics and then explored different ways of notating what we heard through drawing and making. There was also opportunity for group discussion and ideas sharing.
It was a brilliant course and enjoyed by all.

Debbie Lyddon is a former classical musician who retrained as an artist. She uses both looking and listening skills in her art practice.

These are some tentative beginnings to some of my work
