I began my last newsletter to you with the words
SNOW ~ SNOW ~ SNOW
Well nothing new there then!!!

I was teaching in North Wales over the weekend but bad weather prevented me from getting home so I stayed an extra night. Getting home took longer than expected, not because of the weather in the end, but because I had to keep stopping to look at the fabulous views and take these pictures!!!!!

SO WHAT WAS I UP TO IN NORTH WALES?

.......or more to the point what were the students up to? Ben Nicholson was once again the theme for the weekend and I must say how impressed I was with the class of 16 students. I was tutoring the North Wales Branch of the Embroiderers Guild and I could quickly tell that they were up for anything. Here are just a few of the results.

Initial exercises had students exploring Nicolson's white relief work, making low relief print blocks and printing onto papers and fabric.

Students then began looking at his use of jugs and mugs etc and new designs and blocks were made from their own original drawings.

I just loved the variety of marks and textures achieved in these pieces.

Some students were influenced by some of my samples and went on to produce some beautifully pieces of their own.

As you can see we had lots of fun over the two days.

Thank you to all the lovely students that came on this workshop.
I will be back in North Wales on the 23rd April, when I will be giving a lecture on my work. Please join us for the evening and maybe you will want to join the North Wales Embroiderers Guild Branch.

JENNIFER COLLIER

I still have some places on this course which I would love to fill.
D escribed by Jennifer as 'luxury' lampshades and that is certainly what they are, you will create  your own beautiful recycled paper lampshade using lovely vintage papers and by upcycling existing frames. You will be shown all steps of the process, from how to create a pattern to fit your frame, to how to stitch the papers together to form the shade.

THESE ARE NOT JUST ART LAMPSHADES BUT ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL ONES AND I CAN THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COURSE

You  will also be taught embellishment techniques, such as embossing, stamping, and various hand and machine stitches to decorate your light shade. Jennifer will provide all materials but asks students to bring along any special maps, papers, or books you may wish to incorporate and a lampshade frame to up-cycle (panel lampshades as pictured, rather than barrel) or Jennifer will have them available to buy on the day for £4-£9.

A fabulous course which is very popular with Jennifer's students.

'Paper Lampshades'               16/17 April                 £130 for 2 days

BOOK ON-LINE  HERE
