This will be just a brief email as the weather beckons me into the garden!!! It is beautiful, but very strange for it to be so warm at this time of the year! Still I plan to enjoy it.

Also news of one course at Moor Hall and a drawing course by me at ART VAN GO

These snowdrops are nearly over now, but we had more this year than ever. They are in a lovely setting under this huge beech tree.

............and some of my favorites.....hellebores.

KAY GREENLEES:  3rd, 4th and 5th May 2019
Inspired by Lace
£195 for 3 days
FEW PLACES REMAINING

"Working from beautiful historical lace examples (yours or mine), we will explore some of the key visual ideas associated with lace and use simple methods to record these as the starting point for our small-scale workbook. To allow us to concentrate on ideas such as marks and textures we will largely be working in black and white but incorporating some colour to provide interest. We will develop these ideas exploring a variety of paper types and weights, inventing as we go, but always within a structure that offers support as well as plenty of room for individual interpretation. Whether a beginner or an experienced worker there should be some challenges, a bit of fun, and plenty of scope for adapting the ideas for work with fabric and stitch. You will have a small-scale themed sketchbook at the end of the course."   Kay Greenlees

Kay is a highly experienced teacher, having taught adult education embroidery groups, MA and BA textile design students to PGCE trainees and school pupils. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and is the author of Creating Sketchbooks. She currently works as a volunteer with the National Arts Education Archive exploring the textile aspects of the collections.

Here are a few different images of her work for  you to feast on.

Her students have also produced some fabulous results, as you can see below.

Collaborative Drawings and Colour Studies
12th and 13th March 2019
ART VAN GO

Well this might not sound a particularly attractive workshop, but it is in fact one of my favourites, as it is completely liberating and produces exciting results every time I do it.

What it does, is make people who say they cannot draw, realise that they can and by working collaboratively for the first exercise gives students a sense of it not mattering too much, as no-one will actually know which bits you have done!!!!! That's clever.

However it can also make you feel a responsibility to others, but at that point I will be back, with more tricks in adding colour, s electing, cutting and using the sections in different ways. We will work with different dry media and we will have plenty of discussion as to how the images created can be used as beautiful designs for translation into fabric and stitch in your own time.

Further fun activities, but with a purpose will be offered on this course. So please come and extend those drawing skills or learn new ones.

These images  which I have done show some of the work that we will be tackling, but it does not end here.

For further details or booking on this course please contact ART VAN GO by phoning 01438 814946 or going to their

How many frogs can you see? There are plenty more in the pond. It is just a matter of keeping the otter away now!!!!

Thanks for looking in and do enjoy this rather bizarre weather while it lasts.
Bye for now
