TWO ON-LINE COURSES

As promised I am now back with two further on-line courses. The first will be a repeat of the Ben Nicholson Course which I have just been doing and the second is a new on-line course 'Inspired by Tone and Line', which I feel will work well and is suitable for anyone who wishes to improve or extend their design skills but with plenty of scope of working in fabric and stitch.

Enrolments for 'Inspired by Ben Nicholson will open on 27th April 2020 and WILL CLOSE on 10th May 2020.

Enrolments for 'Inspired by Tone and Line' will also open on 27th April 2020 and WILL CLOSE on 17th May 2020.

BEN NICHOLSON ON-LINE COURSE

I have thoroughly enjoyed running this course and have been so impressed with the work that has been produced in a relatively short time. Many of you will know that I am a teacher of art and textiles and while we battle with this most unwelcome virus, I have had to cancel all the courses which I run at my studio in South Shropshire. I am fortunate that some of our countries best tutors come to me to teach, and I must say we do also get the most wonderful students. When this is over and we are back to some normality I hope to be welcoming you back here and maybe a few new students will join us. Meanwhile these on-line courses seem to be the next best thing and I remain grateful to the support that you have shown me in joining in with them.

INSPIRED BY BEN NICHOLSON

This course focuses on the work on Ben Nicholson and through research and practical application students will build up a small portfolio of ideas based on their studies. We will explore simple card print blocks and work both onto paper and fabric allowing students to then develop design possibilities with further drawing and/or with fabric, print and stitch.

INSPIRED BY TONE AND LINE

On this next on-lone course we will investigate tone and line in a number of ways and explore their uses in design for both art and textiles. Preliminary work will be carried out using a variety of tools, media and surfaces and will form the basis for personal interpretations into larger pieces of work and into cloth and stitch. As with nearly all my courses, artist research will offer further insight into the development of personal ideas around this theme. This course is suitable for all levels of ability with the exercises spread over four fortnightly sessions.

Session 1        Tone in Design
Session 2        Line in Design
Session 3        Exploring Expressive Line 
Session 4        Changing the surface, media, tools and scale.
