Inspired by William Scott
This will be an on-line course ZOOM with an introductory session on 30 September 2025, followed by 4 teaching sessions on 7, 14, 21, 28 October 2025 all starting at 2.30pm
PLEASE NOTE that there will be a final session to share your completed pieces of work with one another on February 2026 again at 2.30
Sessions will last approximately 2 hours, and the Introductory Session and Final Session will last approximately 1 hour.
COURSE OUTLINE
This course takes its inspiration from the paintings of William Scott.and involves drawing and design and then making, in cloth.
Session 1 ~ This will be an introduction to the course and is designed to ensure everone is familar with Zoom and the associated technolgy. It will set the scene with an initial poweroint and also give you some prepartion work to get you all going
Session 2, 3, 4, and 5 These will tackle different aspects of the course as follows, but not necessarily in this order from:
- Looking at specific paintings of Scott
- Linear drawings from your own artefacts
- Preparation of papers using gesso and pastels
- Preparation of cloth
- Adding details through mark making
- Adding details through stitch to cloth
- Collage with papers and cloth
- Hand stitch techniques
- Discussion of scale, space and composition
- Machine processes if you wish to use a sewing machine (not essential)
Bobby Britnell
My roots lie in theatre costumes and tailoring and later as a secondary school teacher. Since 1984, I have worked as a free-lance artist teaching textiles and art, to all ages and levels up to BA degree students. My own work as a artist holds as much relevance as my work as a teacher, both go hand in hand. My website shows a glimpse of some of my work.
