COURSE DESCRIPTION
This content of this workshop consists of my favourite ways of collecting information from a source. The source is of your choosing. Five stones or five objects that you love and wish to work from.
It will be primarily a paper-based course. No pencils or traditional drawing but developing elements informed from your source using inlay, papercuts, embossing, collage, folding, piercing and punching, slitting and slotting, waxing…….
Some of the course time will also be spent exploring ways to work with cloth from the outcomes of your paper experiments.
Colour may be introduced if relevant. Stitch may also be considered.
This is what I would call a ‘playful’ risk taking workshop. The aim is to introduce many different starting points for personal projects and to look at the nature of materials both paper and cloth.
A dialogue between myself and individual students is an important part of my teaching style whilst encouraging personal identity.
AMANDA CLAYTON
This course is exclusive to Moor Hall.
Amanda is doing very little teaching from 2026 after having shared her practice with many artists and potential artists over the last 45 years. Diagnostic foundation art and design teaching, responding to individual students and supporting them to work with their own visual language, has been her passion; whilst also consistently producing her own new works for exhibitions and more latterly health projects.
She has participated for a period of time with groups such as The 62 Group, The Textile Study Group and ComMa.
Amanda is looking forward to now teaching at a few favourite venues and enjoying time in her studio, continuing to 'learn' and evolve her personal creative practice involving 'stitch'.
